Wow, the weather this year has really been rough.  Following my own advice (and reframing any negative thoughts), I am proud to say that I did not complain about the cold and/or snow this year.  That is, until recently.  It is difficult not to get tired and frustrated with the, seemingly, never-ending winter-like weather.

Like most people, I needed a break.  The “spring break” season and thoughts about summer lead me to explore my options.  Given the impact of tough economic times, I needed to figure out a way to get a vacation without spending the money typically incurred taking a vacation.  Hence, the STAYCATION.  This year, I chose to do a one-night stay at an IL hotel.  I only had to drive about 45-minutes, so I saved on gas.  There was a restaurant in the hotel that offered discounts.  Plus, I had previously signed up for their rewards program so I saved additional money on breakfast (I could have chosen two other options, but this worked best for me).  It was so nice to get away and relax.

It was ironic that shortly after planning my staycation, the Partnership for Women’s Mental Health asked me to speak on staycations for their Women Living Well quarterly series.  I will be speaking at Schaumburg Public Library on Saturday, June 27th.  This will be a free seminar and I will be talking about different types of staycations.  For example:

·         Volunteering

·         Free, public resources

·         Low cost day trips

·         Slightly higher-cost, short trips

So, mark your calendars for June 27th!  I look forward to seeing you then.

P.S.  If you have any staycation tips to share, please do so here and I will include them in my seminar and provide a summary on my website.
